Scholarships

Senior Research Fellow
The Vision Research Foundation Senior Research Fellowship is an award to support a top postdoctoral scientist for three years in an area of research aligned with our research arms. The salary support package is set at the lecturers or senior lecturer scale at the University of Auckland, depending on experience. Additional funding for such expenses may also be available on application.
To be eligible to apply, you will need to be:
- A PhD or MD scientist in medicine, biomedicine, biomedical engineering, or computer science.
Have five to 10 years of post-doctoral experience.
- Hold NZ citizenship, permanent residency or be eligible for a Visa to work in NZ.
Project Grants
Vision Research Foundation will consider providing support to individuals or groups who are interested in collaborating with our team of researchers in an area of research aligned with our research arms. Grants will be up to $20,000, although funding of up to $60,000 may be considered. Project grants are for one to two years. Support is reserved for running costs of the research, equipment, or salary support for research technicians.


Māori and Pacific Scholarships
Vision Research Foundation Māori and Pacific Scholarships are open to all Māori and Pacific students who are interested in pursuing any of our scholarships, fellowships, studentships or grants and who are eligible to be enrolled in a NZ university. You will work with one of our dynamic and cutting-edge research teams on a project related to one of our research arms.
Masters and PhD Scholarships
The Vision Research Foundation Masters and PhD scholarships are open to all students who are interested in vision science in research in one of our research arms and who are eligible to be enrolled in a NZ university as a student. You will work with one of our dynamic and cutting-edge research teams on a project related to one of our research arms.


Summer Scholarship
The Vision Research Foundation Secondary Scholarship is open to all students attending university (NZ or overseas) who are pursuing a career in medicine, biomedical research, or bioengineering and are interested in gaining experience in vision research. The scholarship provides a research stipend of $6000 for full-time 10-week summer research in one of our research teams on a project related to one of our research arms.
Secondary School Scholarships
The Vision Research Foundation Secondary School Scholarship is open to all students in their final three years of secondary school who are considering pursuing a career in medicine, biomedical research, or bioengineering and who are eligible to be enrolled in a NZ university. The scholarship provides a research stipend of $5000 for full-time, summer research in one of our research teams on a project related to one of our research arms.
